Thanksgiving Leftovers...what to do with them?
The big day has come and gone. I hope it was a big success and not too stressful. Now you have a refrigerator full of leftovers, that after a couple of days everyone is seriously tired of. I don't know about you, but it sickens me to throw food away just because it got old.
We tend to forget, or may not realize how many things can be frozen.
I have recently learned, an am still learning, in this regard. As we age and have fewer in the home, large meals are overkill, but it's hard to cook "just a little" of most meals. So, not only for the big feasts, but with every day meals it is a good practice to get into.
In my short time doing this I've learned several tricks:
When freezing leftovers, freeze just enough in each package for 1 meal.
Soups, spaghetti sauce, etc. Can be frozen for later as well. Double zip lock these.
I don't have a sealer for packages, but I use zip lock bags.
Most pies and cakes can be frozen also. Just be sure they are sealed very well.
It is good to label and date the bags as well. You will be glad you did later.
